Meet Larissa Lago, PhD student in geoscience

Larissa Lago, PhD student, switching carbonate samples out in a rock testing machine

"My name is Larissa Lago, I'm from Brazil, and I am PhD Student. My research is in rock mechanics, so I study the behavior of carbonate rocks when they are subjected to different states of tension. I mainly analyze changes in the physical and mechanical properties of rocks.

Here in Brazil, black people are minority in geoscience because of structural racism and lack of effective measures to insert us in the scientific environment. Here we are organizing and coming together as black people to change this situation.

I like so much geology, and I hope one day more black people can meet and become geologists too."
