"Hi, my name is Ari. I work at a retreat center and overnight camp as a program manager. We host a summer camp program, an outdoor education program for schools, and retreats year round. I am the only queer, Black person at my job and in the small town I live in. I love my job, I get to be curious in nature with kids and create a safe place in the outdoors for Black and queer kids.
Representation matters and when kids who look like me come to camp and tell me they are able to wholly be themselves, being “the only one” is worth it. Hard, but worth it. I look forward to the day when more folks who look like me are in the summer camp professional industry. Till then, imma keep encouraging Black and queer kids to stay curious outside." - Ari (@queertrails)
